Vivarium 2025: Final Edition Marks the End of an Era

After 18 years and 15 editions, Vivarium—the world’s largest consumer event for aquarium and terrarium hobbyists—will host its final event in November 2025. No further editions are planned for 2026 or beyond.

A Forward-Looking Farewell

Despite record attendance, an expanding exhibitor base, and the need for additional exhibition space, the organizers have decided to conclude Vivarium in its current format. The decision is based on two central factors: feasibility and relevance.

Behind the Scenes: Growing Challenges

Organizing Vivarium has become increasingly difficult. Rising costs, complex negotiations, and shifting expectations from commercial partners no longer align with the event’s original mission: to promote the hobby and bring joy to enthusiasts. The event has always been run on a voluntary, part-time basis—an increasingly unsustainable model due to personnel and health limitations.

Industry Shifts and Evolving Priorities

Longstanding participants such as Reef Products, Ocean & Lake, Aquabeek, ZooZajac, and even the Discus Friends are no longer active—a reflection of broader changes in the industry. The influx of influencer culture and commercialized formats also diverges from what Vivarium has stood for: authenticity, enthusiasm, and community-driven passion.

A Legacy to Be Proud Of

Still, the team looks back with pride. Vivarium redefined hobbyist events in the Netherlands and became a global destination for enthusiasts. Major brands and hobbyists from all over the world came to experience its unique atmosphere, creating memories that will last.

The name Vivarium will live on in a new, less intensive format that continues to celebrate and support the hobby.

One Last Celebration

Under the motto “ONE MORE TIME!”, Vivarium 2025 aims to be a grand finale that surpasses all previous editions. Exhibitors, sponsors, and visitors are invited to join in making this final chapter unforgettable.
